Sr. Specialist Forestry Strategic Planner

Purpose of the role: Develop tactical and strategic forest management plans with a long-term perspective (10+ years), ensuring sustainable production while integrating environmental and social considerations. These plans should offer actionable insights to guide tactical and operational teams, support strategic decision-making, optimize resource use, and mitigate risks and adverse impacts.

Individual accountabilities: 

• Develop and manage 10-year forest plans, including harvesting, planting, and wood delivery schedules.
• Analyze forest indicators (MAI, age) and incorporate them into planning.
• Utilize technical skills in Excel, database management, R/Python programming for analysis.
• Utilization of forest planning tools such as Remsoft Woodstock, along with the development of optimization models.
• Conduct spatial analysis using mapping software (ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Prepare and clean data for analysis, solve problems, and visualize data to provide actionable insights.
• Train and lead team members to enhance their performance.
• Report to the Manager Head of Strategic & Tactical Planning.

Minimum Requirement:

• Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in forest management or a related field.
• Experience with advanced forest modeling and optimization tools, such as Remsoft Woodstock.
• Proficiency in Excel, database management, R/Python programming, and spatial analysis software (ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• Understanding of forest sustainability principles and regulations.
• Ability to train and develop team members effectively.
• Experience in managing and integrating cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders.
