Asia Pulp and Paper is a global leader in the pulp and paper industry committed to sustainable and efficient energy management. We operate large-scale coal-fired power plants to support our manufacturing facilities across Asia. We are looking for a seasoned Senior Expert in coal-fired power plant operations to lead and optimize the performance and reliability of our power assets.

Job Summary

The Senior Expert – Operation, Coal-Fired Power Plant will provide technical leadership and strategic oversight in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of coal-fired power plants across APP’s facilities in Indonesia. This role will ensure maximum plant availability, efficiency, safety, and compliance with environmental regulations while driving continuous improvement initiatives and mentoring operational teams.

Key Responsibilities
    •    Lead and oversee the day-to-day operation of coal-fired power plants to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power generation.
    •    Develop and implement operational strategies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) aligned with best industry practices.
    •    Monitor plant performance metrics and conduct root cause analysis to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.
    •    Drive initiatives for improving plant efficiency, reducing downtime, and minimizing emissions in compliance with local and international

environmental standards.
    •    Coordinate with maintenance teams to plan predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance activities.
    •    Lead and mentor a team of engineers and operators, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous learning.
    •    Collaborate with cross-functional departments including engineering, environmental, and safety teams to align plant operations with company policies and goals.
    •    Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal audits, preparing technical reports and documentation as needed.
    •    Evaluate new technologies and recommend upgrades or retrofits to enhance plant performance.
    •    Support emergency response planning and execution related to plant operations.

Qualifications
    •    Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Power Engineering, or a related technical field.
    •    Minimum 20 years of experience in coal-fired power plant operations, with at least 10 years in a senior or expert role.
    •    Proven expertise in operation, optimization, and troubleshooting of coal-fired power plants, including boiler, turbine, and auxiliary systems.
    •    Strong knowledge of plant safety standards, environmental regulations, and emissions control technologies.
    •    Experience in performance monitoring tools, SCADA systems, and operational data analysis.
    •    Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    •    Ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment across multiple sites in Asia.
    •    Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is a plus.
